Revisting Bottom….

I have just started to re-watch one of my favorite TV series from my childhood/early teenage years, Bottom. Although a lot of the slap stick stuff doesn’t seem as funny now, the dialog is still well written (unlike my blog) and performed perfectly. The way the characters play off each other so well is what I think kicked up my interest in comedy duos from a young age and I have since gone on to enjoy Howard and Vince (The Mighty Boosh), Mark and Jeremy (Peep Show), Roy and Moss (I.T Crowd) and Matt and Rich (Snuff Box) amongst others. Like a lot of good Tv shows Bottom went on for a little too long and even produced a film (AVOID!!!). Bottom may not be as good as the Young Ones but its still one of Rick Mayall’s master pieces of sorts!

Red Bull Cola Blah Blah…

Anyone who knows me, will know that I’m a big fan of Red Bull (not the company its self or what it promotes, just the actually drink) and its knock offs (Kick,Boost,Rockstar,Blue Thunder, Red Rooster etc.). So when I saw that Red Bull were taking the leap into the Cola Wars, I was awaiting a taste of this concoction. This is the first major brand extension since Sugar-Free Red Bull was introduced in 2003, so its about time they made a move.
At first I wasn’t sure if it was “Red Bull” the energy drink mixed with cola or weather it was a cola drink produce by Red Bull the company. This was soon cleared up by the fact that the can states “Simply Cola” on the front. So today I finally found some in a centra on the North side of Dublin. It was one of the larger cans, so I thought Great, if this is nice I’ll have plenty of it! Boy was I wrong!
As soon as I had my first mouth full the only thing that came to might was “melted Kool-Pops”. Yes, to me Red Bull’s “Cola” tastes as good as any pound shops cola. This made think a bit though about what really is a “cola” taste. Just because coca-cola is the biggest cola drink ever, doesn’t mean its the definitive cola taste. The cola favor comes from the Kola Nut, and Coca Cola gets its name from this and the Coca Leaf , Red Bull Cola has both of these present in its mixture and claims that all the ingredients are natural and is being marketed as a natural product. Only time will tell if Red Bull Cola can really cut it in the Cola Wars (Coca-Cola and Pepsi are the only two really in this war), but as far as I’m concerned I wouldn’t give a s%%t if it disappeared tomorrow.

It seems Liars have pulled out of their scheduled Irish gig with The Battles and Repetitive Manifesto to tour the U.S this summer with none other than Radiohead……….Selling out?

It has finally been confirmed that Guillermo del Toro is to direct “The Hobbit” and its sequel for New Line-MGM. Del Toro is the man behind Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth , he will be moving to New Zealand for the next 4 years to film both films back to back. The sequel will be dealing with the 60-year period between “The Hobbit” and “The Fellowship of the Ring”.
In other “Ring” news, Microsoft have taken on Peter Jackson to help create two new games in the Halo series.
